PARTNERS IN LEADERSHIP
Ethics, etiquette and leadership skills are the focus for this one-day conference

“Partners in Leadership”, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Point West – Sacramento, is a one-day conference that brings business leaders together with juniors and seniors from Encina Preparatory High School to discuss leadership and ethics, in the classroom and in business.  The purpose is to pair students from the high school with local business leaders in interactive group settings to discuss leadership and ethics, and the how to make good choices when faced with ethical situations.

A variety of ethical situations are discussed along with ideas for how to resolve the issues using the leadership skills that the participants have worked on earlier in the session.  The anticipated outcomes for the students are:  they are exposed to business leaders in a positive setting and learn how to communicate and work with them; they learn to express themselves and their ideas and thoughts in a group setting; and they learn leadership skills that they can use in school and that will assist them in being successful after graduation.

Due to the extremely positive responses by the students after the first conference, the Rotary Club of Point West-Sacramento developed a forum for ongoing discussions with the students at monthly leadership roundtable sessions.  Each month, both club members and students who participated in the conference meet at Encina High to continue discussing the concepts learned at the conference.  The students appreciate the attention and sharing by the business leaders and have an opportunity to gain more insight into what it takes to be a leader and how to deal with ethical dilemmas.  Communication/listening skills, goal setting, choices/values as well as interviewing techniques are also discussed.

The "Partners in Leadership" conference was started by Point West Rotary in 2012, based on the great work started by the Rotary Club of Folsom and their conference founder, Dave West.
